COURSE DESCRIPTIONS

BASIC COURSES

OLD TESTAMENT SURVEY This course, taught by Dr. Paul O. Dabdoub is a survey of the 39 books of the Old Testament. Emphasis is placed on the major characters and events, the themes of the books and passages of particular doctrinal significance.
NEW TESTAMENT SURVEY This course, taught by Dr. Dan Botterbrodt is a chronological survey of the New Testament. The 400 years between the testaments, John the Baptist, the ministry of Christ, the church in Jerusalem, the expansion of the Gospel, the ministry of Paul, and the battle for the truth even in the first century are considered.
LIFE OF CHRIST This course, taught by Dr. Paul O. Dabdoub deals with events of Jesus Christ’s life on earth and a reference to His miracles in the order that He performed them.
CHURCH ADMINISTRATION This course, taught by Dr. Dan Botterbrodt is a study of Biblical and practical principles of administration of a New Testament church. The emphasis is on what is required to maintain proper order in the church (1 Corinthians 14:33, 40). Some of the subjects include church government structure, pulpit committees, solving problems, church discipline, business matters, and church finances.
THE 12 DISCIPLES/APOSTLES This course, taught by Dr. Paul O. Dabdoub takes the student through an exciting biographical look both inside the Scriptures and beyond, into the lives of the 12 ordinary men who Jesus called to be His Disciples-Apostles.
THE MINOR PROPHETS This is an exciting courses designed to familiarize the student with the Minor Prohets. The key elements are investigated in the writings of each prophet.
SUNDAY SCHOOL ADMINISTRATION This course, taught by the late, Dr. Jim Soward, is a great course dealing with how to set up the succesful Sunday School. A good course for the Sunday School teacher and/ or pastor.
MORMONISM This course, taught by Dr. Creighton Lovelace, takes the student through a biographical look into the life of Joseph Smith, Jr., the founder of Mormonism. The student will also learn groundbreaking information regarding the Book of Abraham Papyrus and the Archaeological evidence for Mormonism.
BIBLICAL STEWARDSHIP This course, taught by Dr. Dan Botterbrodt, deals with such subjects as sanctification, managing God’s property, using talents, the Lordship of Jesus Christ, Family relationships, and Church membership are given.
BIBLICAL CHARACTER This course, taught by Dr. Dan Botterbrodt, emphasizes the importance of developing character that preserves a decaying society (Matthew 5:16), upholds the Biblical standard of character in a culture that rejects the Bible, and examines the lives of Bible characters who demonstrated godly character. Special emphasis is also given to the works of the flesh vs. the fruit of the Spirit as found in Galatians 5.
ADVANCED EVANGELISM This is an advanced course dealing with soul winning. This course, taught by Dr. Dabdoub deals with different scenarios that the soul winner will face during door to door soul winning. Also, the student will learn how to lead the sinner to Christ. This course is a great help to those that counsel the sinner at the altar when the invitation is given by the pastor.
WORLD RELIGIONS This course, taught by Dr. Dan Botterbrodt, deals with religions from Pentecost to the present. Many of the false doctrines are exposed. A great course for the student that wants to understand the beliefs and origins of various religions throughout the world.
THE MIRACLES & PARABLES OF JESUS This course, taught by Dr. Paul O. Dabdoub deals with each individual miracle performed by our Lord Jesus Christ. Also, a comparison is made to the anti-christ in that he too, through Satan will use miracles to deceive people during the Seven Year Tribulation Period. This course also covers 30 of the Parables of Jesus. An explanation is given of each parable. Dr. Dabdoub gives a few sermon outlines with some of the parables.

MINISTRY COURSES

MINISTRY TO THE FAMILY This is a course, taught by Pastor Philip Weaver which offers an overview of various areas of the ministry to the family. A biblical foundation for the family and family ministry will be presented to equip the student in leading a practical ministry to the family as a minister in the local church.
THE PASTOR’S WORK This course, taught by pastor Philip Weaver, offers an overview of the varied responsibilities of the pastor. Presented is the biblical foundation for practical ministries to equip the student in his functions and relationships as the pastor of the local church.
THE EFFECTIVE PASTOR This course, taught by Dr. Paul O. Dabdoub deals with what it takes to be an effective pastor of the local New Testament church. Subjects such as “the pastor as counselor, the pastor and the pulpit, the pastor and deacons, the pastor and weddings, the pastor and funerals and many others are covered. A great course for the pastor and student who desires to pastor.
HOMILETICS This course, taught by Pastor Phillip Weaver, offers an introduction to homiletics, which is the art of preaching. Varied considerations for the course will include the principles of sermon construction, the materials for sermons, the methods of sermon preparation, and the principles of sermon delivery.
CHRISTIAN PUBLIC SPEAKING This course, taught by Pastor Phillip Weaver, offers an introduction to public speaking for the Christian leaders and laypersons not particularly called to the preaching ministry. Varied considerations for the course will include the principles of oral communication, the methods of speech preparation, the process of preparing a speech and personal testimony, and the materials for speech preparation.
PRISON MINISTRY This is a course, taught by Dr. Michael Nace which deals with handling situations of a prison. Dr. Nace is a pastor but also heads a prison ministry in Gowanda, NY. His practical experience is a great help in the teaching of this courses. Dr. Nace also gets into how to get into this field.-Attached to this course is a “how to have a ministry to the Homeless”. This course is taught by. Dr. Herbert O. Haws.
THE SUCCESSFUL YOUTH PASTOR This course, taught by Dr. Paul O Dabdoub covers several areas and expectations of the youth pastor. The 4 different types of youth ministries are covered. Also considered are the needs of the young people. A needed course for the student that wants to be a youth pastor. A great help for the student that already holds that position.

PRACTICAL COURSES

Christian Apologetics 1 This course, is taught by Dr. Dan Botterbrodt. The course emphasizes the importance of defending Christian faith. Subjects include an introduction to apologetics, methods for defending the faith, a history of apologetics (including a consideration of the teaching of popular apologists), answering atheistic arguments, and an examination of religious relativism. (new tolerance).
Christian Apologetics 2
A continuation of various subjects and reasons why we should defend the faith. This course is taught by Dr. Dan Botterbrodt.
CHRISTIAN DISCIPLESHIP This course, taught by Dr. Dan Botterbrodt is broken down into two parts: Part one deals with the Foundations for Faith and Part two deals with living by faith.
BIBLICAL ETHICS This course, taught by Dr. Dan Botterbrodt deals with subjects such as habits, conduct, mode of life, character, the ethics of the Christian as well as Christ and the Apostle Paul.
HERMENEUTICS This course, taught by Phillip E. Weaver deals with the process of biblical interpretation.
SURVEY OF THE COVENANTS OF THE BIBLE This course, taught by Dr. Creighton Lovelace, takes the student through an in-depth look of the 8 covenants of the Bible. Dr. Lovelace examines these agreements and their pertinent application in our day and age. The student will also learn of the differences between Dispensationalism and Covenantal theology.
WORSHIP IN THE CHURCH This course, taught by Phillip E. Weaver, offers an introduction to the biblical concept of worship, as well as the nature and principles of leading worship in the church. Course material will emphasize the history of worship and address the practical matters of planning and leading worship in the local church.

CHURCH HISTORY

CHURCH HISTORY 1 A course, taught by Dr. Dabdoub takes the student from the beginning of the church age through the 1,700’s. Some references are also made to present churches. Special attention is given to the church forefathers, the enemies of the church, the reformation etc.
CHURCH HISTORY 2 An in-depth study covering the Modern Church History era. Many preachers are covered from the 1700’s to the present time. A refreshing course of study.
BAPTIST HISTORY I In this course Dr. Creighton Lovelace takes the student on a journey to better understand our roots and heritage as Baptists. With 17 out of 20 youth leaving the church, he explains the importance of passing the “torch of light” onto a new generation but says we cannot do that unless we ourselves know from whence we came. In this course the student will be equipped to answer: How to identify a true New Testament Church and what Baptists believe. The student will also discover the 6 viewpoints on the origins of Baptists.
BAPTIST HISTORY II In this exciting sequel to Baptist History I, Dr. Lovelace takes the student on a whirlwind tour of groups that have held Baptistic principles throughout the ages, such as: The Way, Christians, Novatians, Donatists, Paulicians and Waldenses. Learn the truth about Baptist persecution in Europe and America. The student will also learn about some famous Baptists as well.
CHRISTIAN AMERICAN HISTORY

 

This is a course designed to showcase the forsaken Biblical roots and heritage of the United States of America and to equip Christians with the facts to refute many of the myths and lies about this great nation that God has blessed. Dr. Creighton Lovelace, takes the student into a “museum of the mind” showing various evidences that the USA once was a strong Christian Nation. The Faith of our Founding Fathers and many of our civic leaders are overviewed. The student will also gain basic knowledge about the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution.
THE KING JAMES VERSION This is a course, taught by Dr. Michael Nace, that takes us to the original manuscripts and gives us a clear run down as to how we got the 1611 King James Bible. This course is also a confidence builder in God’s Holy Word. Comparisons are made to other versions of the Bible.

BIBLICAL COUNSELING

INTRODUCTION TO CHRISTIAN COUNSELING This course, taught by Dr. Michael Nace, pastor of Java Village Baptist Church, deals with many of the oppositions to Christian Counseling. The difference between non-Christian and Christian Counseling are compared. Many of the goals that a Christian Counselor should have are discussed.
BIBLICAL COUNSELING 1 In this course, taught by Dr. Michael Nace, deals with many of the problems that the Christian Counselor will face. The “how to handle certain situations” are dealt with in great detail. Unethical situations are also dealt with.
BIBLICAL COUNSELING 2 This course, taught by Dr. Travis Plumlee, gives an in-depth study of the different types of depression; its causes and cures, and how to counsel people with depression. Information has been given to equip the student to minister to those with eating disorders, self-mutilation and suicidal tendencies.
BIBLICAL COUNSELING 3 This course, taught by Dr. Travis Plumlee, deals with hurting people. Also cutting and mutilation is discussed.
BIBLICAL COUNSELING 4 This course, taught by Dr. Paul O. Dabdoub deals with sexual issues. Sex sins are discussed and how to deal with it. A good course for dealing with teenagers as well as marriage issues.
BIBLICAL COUNSELING 5 This course, taught by Dr. Michael Nace, deals with the Natural and Super Natural. How it impacts the Counseling Room.
BIBLICAL COUNSELING 6 This course, taught by Dr. Clark Stewart, pastor of New Zion Baptist Church, in Covington, LA. Deals with how the “godly home” should be set up. This is an excellent course that shows how a home should be set up Biblically.

THEOLOGICAL and DOCTRINAL COURSES

PNEUMATOLOGY This course, taught by Dr. Dabdoub presents the role of the Holy Spirit in the past, in the present and in the future.
THEOLOGY This course, taught by Dr. Dabdoub deals with the doctrine of God. Such topics as His works, His attributes, His Revelations, proofs of the existence of God, the nature of God and the personality of God are covered.
CHRISTOLOGY This course, taught by Dr. Dabdoub covers the Person of Christ, the Humanity of Christ, Proofs of Christ’s Deity, The Death of Christ, The Resurrection of Christ, and the Ascension of Christ are covered.
ANTHROPOLOGY This course, taught by Dr. Dabdoub, covers the Creation of Man, the Fall of Man, the Nature of the Fall, the Results of the Fall, and Sin in relation to the Christian.
SOTERIOLOGY This course, taught by Dr. Dabdoub, covers the Doctrine of Salvation. Topics as Repentance, Faith, Justification, Adoption, Sanctification, and Regeneration are covered.
BIBLIOLOGY This course, taught by Dr. Dabdoub, covers the Basis of Authority, Inspiration, Preservation and Illumination are covered.
ECCLESIOLOGY This course, taught by Dr. Dabdoub, covers the foundation of the Church, the Origin of the Church, the Mission of the Church, the Goal of the Church and the Scriptural Proofs of the Body of Christ.
ESCHATOLOGY 1 & 2 An exciting study, presented in the preach-teaching mode by Dr. Dabdoub. The study begins with the Rapture of the Church and ends with the New Heaven, New Earth, and the New Jerusalem. A great course dealing with the future events to come.
HYMNOLOGY

 

This is a course on the study of the history of music and the instruments used in the Bible. Dr. Lovelace also introduces the student to the methods used to identify Godly and God-honoring music. The student will also learn the background story of some of our favorite hymns and Christmas songs.
BIBLICAL APOLOGETICS

 

In this course, the student is reminded that the King James Bible contains no mistakes or errors. Dr. Creighton Lovelace analyzes many of the problems and alleged “errors” we are confronted with. The student will learn the errors of the Critics and the simple principles and methods, by hands on application, which always yield a resolution that allows us to accurately defend the King James Bible.
BIBLICAL ASTRONOMY

 

The Bible says: “The Heavens declare the glory of God…” not the Big Bang or the evolution of chemicals, planets, stars, or man. In this course Dr. Lovelace prepares the student to take back Astronomy for the Lord by introducing basic principles in Astronomy and equipping them to use the Bible and Astronomical evidence to answer such questions as: What was the Star of Bethlehem? How does distant starlight get to us in a 6,000 year old universe? Is there a Gospel in the stars? Did the sun stand still for Joshua and move backwards for Hezekiah? and Are we alone in the universe?
BIBLICAL ARCHAEOLOGY

 

This in-depth course taught by, Dr. Creighton Lovelace, who takes the student into another one of his “museums of the mind.” The student will survey over 100 Archaeologcal discoveries that verify and confirm what the Bible recorded is accurate even down to the color of tiles used in a palace. The student will gain a basic understanding of how digs are conducted and how to use “Biblically Correct” C-14 dating. This is a course that will be of interest to the serious Bible student or to those interested in Apologetics..
THE DOCTRINE OF SIN/TRINITY This is a course, taught by Dr. Dabdoub dealing with sin and how it has affected mankind throughout the ages. The consequences of sin are discussed as well as different kinds of sin.The Doctrine of the Trinity is connected to the course in which Dr. dabdoub teaches the evidences of the Trinity, the three in one. Scriptural proofs are given.
SATANOLOGY This is an indebt study of Satan. Dr. Dabdoub brings out such topics as his existence, his personality, his names, his activities and much more are covered.
DOCTRINE OF FAITH 1 This course, taught by Dr. Dan Botterbrodt deals with Biblical Faith and how it is necessary for the Christian life. The fundamentals are covered. An outline is provided for the student.
THE DOCTRINE OF PRAYER This course, taught by Dr. Dabdoub deals with the real meaning of prayer. This course is a must for the Bible student that wants to have a successful prayer life. How to get answers from God are covered.
Survey of the Kings

(1,11 Kings)

This course, taught by Dr. Paul O. Dabdoub gives a survey of each king. There are 39 kings in all, who ruled in the Northern and Southern Kingdom. An outline is provided.
THE DOCTRINE OF HEAVEN AND HELL The Doctrine of Heaven looks into the mirror of Heaven, the home of the saved. The Doctrine of Hell looks into the horror’s of Hell. A necessary course for the pastor, evangelist and Bible student. This course is taught by Dr. Paul O. Dabdoub
THE POWER OF GOD This course, taught by Dr. Dabdoub, examines the Power of God, the Power of the Jesus Christ, and the Power of the Holy Spirit. Also examined is the Power of the Christian and the results and causes of being powerless.

DEMONOLOGY This course, taught by Dr. Dabdoub investigates the Power of Demons, the Origin of Demons, the Forms of Demons, Demon Possession, the casting out of Demons etc.

THE DOCTRINE OF CREATION This course, taught by Dr. Dan Botterbrodt covers in great detail “Creationism”. Many of the false arguments to Evolution are put to rest in this study. An eye opener.
DISPENSATIONALISM This course taught by Dr. Dan Botterbrodt examines the Biblical and historical understanding of Classical Dispensationalism, considers God’s continuing plan for the nation of Israel (Romans 9-11), and Biblically answers un-biblical conclusions of some dispensationalists.

MISSIONS

BIOGRAPHIES OF MODERN MISSIONARIES This course, taught by Dr. Dabdoub deals with the lives of recent missionaries and their ministries. The challenges they faced on the field and how they overcame them is also examined.
HOW TO START A CHURCH This course, taught by Dr. Dabdoub deals with the “How to” of building a local New Testament Church. He deals with building a church from scratch. A helpful course for any person who is considering starting a church.

BOOKS OF THE BIBLE

GENESIS This course, taught by Dr. Dabdoub takes a tour from creation through the life of Joseph. The lives of many men are covered in great detail. This is a verse by verse study. This course gives the Bible student much ammunition to deal with the critics who try to discredit the Book of Beginnings.
EXODUS This is a course taught by Dr. Creighton Lovelace that details the Hebrews time of slavery in Egypt and the Exodus. An in- depth analysis is given concerning the 10 Commandments and the Law. The first 80 years of Moses’s life is surveyed.
 

LEVITICUS

 

This is a chapter-by-chapter study by Dr. Creighton Lovelace, pastor of Danieltown Baptist Church of Forest City, NC that details the system of Old Testament Worship. This is a must for the serious Bible student in that it lays a foundation and meaning of the Christological typology of the sacrifices and how they pertain to us today.
NUMBERS

 

This is a course, taught by Dr. Creighton Lovelace that overviews the sad folly of the Hebrews lack of faith and their subsequent wanderings in the Wilderness.
DEUTERONOMY

 

This chapter-by-chapter course taught by Dr. Creighton Lovelace details the last sermons and exhortations as well as the last years of Moses’ life. This book takes the Mosaic law and applies it to day-to-day life in the Promised Land. Details of the Palestinian Covenant are also presented. Dr. Lovelace is the pastor of Danieltown Baptist Church of Forest City, NC.
JOSHUA

 

This is a course, taught by Dr. Bill Tittle dealing with the actions of Joshua. A verse by verse study.
1,2 Samuel 1 Samuel is an in-depth, verse- by-verse study, taught by Dr. Creighton Lovelace. The transition from a Theocracy to Manarchy is detailed as the people yearn to be like the other nations around them. The rise and fall of Saul is detailed along with the rise of David. Within this study, the lives of Samuel and Saul are covered.

11 Samuel is a continuation of the narritive begun in 1 Samuel and shows the rise and fall of David. In this verse-by-verse course, Dr. Creighton Lovelace shows the 2 civil wars that would be fought and details the fourfold repayment of David’s sin with Bathsheba.

1,2 KINGS 1 Kings-In this verse by verse course, Dr. Creighton Lovelace takes the student to the deathbed of King David as Solomon becomes king. The Temple of God is built along with other projects as Solomon drifts farther away from God. The kingdom divides when Rehoboam, David’s grandson becomes king. Also in this course Elijah will be introduced.

2 Kings-In this verse by verse course, Dr. Lovelace alternates a tour through Judah and Israel. We observe the decline of Elijah and the rise of Elisha. Israel fails to heed the prophets as the Assyrian army destroys the nation and camps outside Jerusalem only to be destroyed. We finish our tour in a roller coaster ride of Judah’s life and land into the hands of Nebuchadnezzar.

1 CHRONICLES

 

This chapter-by-chapter course is a must for any serious student of the Bible. This book is more than a “repeat” of Samuel and/or Kings. Many Bible critics use lesser-known passages in this book to confuse and attempt to attack the King James Bible’s inerrancy. Dr. Lovelace explains why the critics of the Bible are misguided and wrong. He attempts to show why God included all those names and what they mean to us today. The lives of Saul and David are overviewed.
2 CHRONICLES

 

This course is a chapter-by-chapter study and continues the overview of history of the Jewish United Monarchy beginning with Solomon. Dr. Creighton Lovelace also details the exciting 5 Revivals that swept the land and how Queen Athaliah usurped the throne. More “problem passages” are dealt with in order to assist the student in being ready to defend their faith.
EZRA-NEHEMIAH This course, taught by Dr. Dan Botterbrodt deals with the life of Ezra and his works. Also covered is the rebuilding of the walls by Nehemiah. His leadership is also covered.
ESTHER-RUTH Esther-This is a verse-by-verse course, taught by Dr. Creighton Lovelace takes you into the world of King Ahasuerus to the Royal Palace at Shushan. The study covers the attack of Satan upon the Jewish people by wicked Haman. We will see Esther, the Jewish Queen come to the defense of her people. A great study that you will enjoy.The Book of Ruth is taught by Dr. Dabdoub, a verse by verse study covering the life of Ruth.
JOB A verse by verse study, taught by Dr. Dabdoub, covering the life of Job. His friends and sufferings are covered.
PSALMS This book, taught by Dr. Dabdoub covers many hand picked Psalms in great detail. An interesting study.
PROVERBS This is a great study, taught by Dr. Dabdoub. Many passages are hand picked and dealt with in great detail.
ECCLESIATES-SONG OF SOLOMON A verse by verse study, by Dr. Dabdoub. The life of Solomon is covered in great detail.
JEREMIAH This book, taught by Dr. Dan Botterbrodt deals with the life of Jeremiah. Many of Jeremiah’s prophecies are covered.
EZEKIEL This is a course, taught by Dr. Dan Botterbrodt deals with the life of Ezekiel. Many prophetical teachings are covered.
DANIEL This is a study, using a verse by verse book written by Dr. T. Jack Moody and taught by Dr. Dabdoub. This is an interesting study dealing with the prophecies of Daniel.
ISAIAH This is a chapter by chapter study by Dr. Dan Botterbrodt. A great study dealing with the life and prophecies of Isaiah.
MATTHEW, MARK, LUKE and JOHN All four books are covered in great detail. Matthew, Mark and John are verse by verse. The Book of Luke is a detailed chapter by chapter. All four books, taught by Dr. Dabdoub, covers the witness of all 4 writers as to what they saw and wrote of our Savior Jesus Christ. Very informative.
ACTS This book, taught by Dr. Dabdoub, is a chapter by chapter study of the Acts of the Apostles. The study exposes many of the abuse of the transitional book of Acts. A great study for the serious Bible student.
ROMANS This course, taught by Dr. Paul O. Dabdoub, President and Founder of SBS. “I just got through re-recording this course in December of 2009. Since 1994, I have recorded this course 3 times and I am excited about this study. I have broken down the book in 3 sections. Chaps 1-5, 6-10 and 11-16. There are 3 tests accordingly to help the student. The theme of the course is the righteousness of God revealed. I recommend this course for all of our Bible students”.
